Multiple Images...

Why not take multiple images? I am curious why so many people post single images of a specimen. We are given the opportunity to post more than one. I know experts in a field who will sit and argue with other experts about what a species of a specimen is when they have it in front of them to examine under a microscope. When you have a single image of a specimen and it is nothing more than a single flower or a plant a foot away sometimes it is impossible. Some insects are impossible to get to genus much less to species level with a single photo. And when a photo is a single image from either the front or the back you are asking for an impossibility deciding whether it is a wasp or an ant in some cases.

It used to be a difficult thing. Back when you had to know how to use a camera, understand what aperture and shutter speed meant. When film and processing took time and you couldn't even post pictures to the internet. But now it is a matter of pointing your phone and pretending you are a photographer. Take a couple more pictures and give people a better idea of what is out there that they are trying to identify.

The difference between two different species of plants may be what is on the underside of a leaf. And the difference between one plant and another might mean the interest from a government agency and grant money for a project that means something worthwhile being accomplished. All because of a couple of extra pictures. And to think, phones used to be hooked up to walls and you used to have to buy film and process pictures and show them to your friends in photo albums.

I challenge you, at least two, if not three photos for every post....
