tedmacrae's Identifications

Hiding among alder (Alnus incana) catkins at pond edge (see last photo). Beetle collected as voucher to identify. It is female (last abdominal segment tridentate). Length is 13.5 mm. From the host (?) plant, Alnus, and the form of the elytra tips, it is probably D. pugionata, "infrequently collected" and known from Connecticut. (Identified using Field Guide to the Jewel Beetles (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) of Northeastern North America, by Paiero et al (Univ. of Guelph, 2012).)
