The wonderful parsonsia thicket shown in photo 3 no longer exists; some years ago all the senescent wattles were removed and the parsonsia vine was drenched with herbicide and killed stone dead; I don't see anywhere near as many little birds near that bridge nowadays, nor do I see as many butterflies. A narrow (one tree wide) strip of 'habitat' planting along the creek bank was put in but no parsonsia vines or any other native creeper were included in the repertoire of plants.
