From an nocturnal insect survey at the gums reserve, third creek catchment.
Lasioglossum (Homalictus) dotatum kleptoparasite
Doing circuits around and entering burrows of Amegilla and Leioproctus.
I was watching a female
(https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/216425850) when this male arrived, clearly interested in her. She scrambled away a short distance but we caught her and they tumbled around for a short time (photos 2 & 3) before she left and then he departed (photos 4 & 5).
Note that his terminalia are extended and visible in photos 2 & 3
This female was exploring the edges of large ant mound ... then a male arrived (https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/216425851) and seconds later they tumbled around in a small depression. She seemed to reject him (photo 6) (or it was all over very quickly!) and departed (photo 7).
These two met up on the same tree. They interacted for a while then went their separate ways. The black one approached the brown one from behind. The brown one then hunched up and flicked its hind legs. Its head was bent down with its nippers touching the branch of the tree. It was an interesting interaction to watch!
