110 km southerly range extension for the Karoo region. As far as I can find out, the closest known record in the general area is from Karoo National Park, having been collected by Werner Conradie. Ex. Psammophis trinasalis
Found in the day chilling on a rock next to a stream deep in a gorge. We presume it was after frogs.
Spotted Rock Snake in Besemfontein while it was hunting a Bibron's Gecko
I had been hoping to find a snake that day, but every rock I turned over yielded nothing. Then, when I was helping the rest of our group up a difficult ledge, I moved a large stone off of the path and low and behold this curious little serpent was coiled up beneath it. It was in a very tight bundle, barely any wider than a golf ball. If I were to guess its length I would put it somewhere above 15cm. It was too cold to move, allowing me to shift it and get a view of its underside. Looking at the tail, it seems that is has recently shed its skin. My dad and I have both tried to ID it, but without success.
