Spectrogram shows part of the included audio file. Merlin seemed confident that it was a white-throated sparrow call. I believe there are two birds of the same species calling. Unfortunately I never actually saw the birds making the calls. The cardinal's calls, which I mostly excluded from the clip, were separate and unmistakable (metallic chip calls).
Very large caterpillar with white/yellow fur, as well as two pairs of black hairs towards the front that are a distance apart and a single of black hairs towards the rear that are much closer together, eating a Crimson King Maple.
