This very small Pitaya was found growing on a boulder (probably limestone) on the size of a mostly dried-up creek bed, Squaw Springs (a permanent water source) at Indio Mountains Research Station in Hudspeth County, Texas. It was only about 2 inches tall, but had spines that were longer than it was tall. The flesh (stems) of the cactus was rosy pink and light green, the short spines were white (in a star pattern of 5 spines each), and the long spines (coming out from the center of the star pattern of white spines) were reddish-brown. This young cactus was growing in a clump of three stems. It was growing on the same rock as a Cobweb Cactus.
