I believe this flower is from the Orchidaceae family as it has three main petals, flowers arranged on a singular stem, leaves from the base of the plant and disitinctive reproductive glands.
I believe this is from the Thelymitra genus as it as many flowered with the sepals and petals free. The leaves are basal.
I believe this is the Thelymitra ixioides. This was a tricky flower to identify as many species within this genus has extremely similar flowers. The Thelymitra media has a very similar flower and at first I considered this as a possible identification, however the T. media is up to 90cm tall, where as the plant pictured would have been 30cm tall. The T. media also flowers from October- January whereas the plant pictured was flowering in September and has since not been flowering. It could have also possibly been Thelymitra purpurata as it’s flower, including reproductive glands, are incredibly similar. However the T. purpurata is found on the the NSW north coast, where as the plant pictured was found on the south coast. The Thelymitra ixioides grows up to 60cm, has a flowering season from August-January, and has a distinctive shaped ovary. Although the T. ixioides generally has spots, there are many plants of this species found without spots.
