Apparently these are the fresh cones on this joint-fir. I don’t know that I’d ever seen them like this.
This yucca was about the only prairie plant surviving in the full shade here.
trunk like base which then extends to the leaves, long green leaves surrounded by sharp edges that resemble a serrated knife or dagger, leaves can also have a pale-yellow color, leaves grow in an outward direction giving it a shaggy round look, can be around 10ft tall.
