Shell found at ~1:50pm on the Kingsbury Branch of the Winooski River.
We believe these are Pocketbook Freshwater Mussels (photographed 8 of the 9 out of the water). We found them in our man-made pond, which was completed in August 2011 just before Hurricane Irene filled it within a matter of hours. They were found in shallow water on the western bank (5 meters deep in middle), which has great sun exposure from mid-morning through early afternoon. Their sizes ranged from about 6 to 13 centimeters and they were dispersed along approximately a 30 meter line. The water is crystal clear, as clear as I have ever seen it. We have stocked it with Rainbow Trout during the first three years and many remain.
