Observed a pair of Turkey Vultures.
The Salinas River is nearby, as are other smaller tributaries.
Black Phoebe (Sayornis nigricans) is a perching bird in the tyrant-flycatcher family. Length is 17cm (6.5 inches). Adult male and femaIe (basically) look the same. It has predominantly black plumage, with a white belly and undertail coverts. The sexes are identical in color, and juveniles have brown feather tips and brown wing-bars. It is rarely found away from water, which may be natural streams or ponds, or irrigation ditches or even water troughs. Water ensures the availability of mud for nests.
They are very vocal little birds while hunting flying insects. Sound recordings below.
