Due to time of year not commonly seen. These images taken from a male individual found with a gravid female in a Chatham Island Petrel (Pterodroma axillaris) artificial burrow.
Images taken by Dave M. Houston (the gurt big mits are mine). Although abundant on this predator free island, we saw very few individuals, no doubt because of the time of the year (freezing cold, watery sun etc. etc).
Gecko walked across path in front of us. It was so vibrant we couldn't miss it! First time we've seen one in the wild so that was a real treat.
Lovely specimen spotted on kiekie about 1.5m up on a warm and calm evening. Tail looks to of regrown after some previous 'trauma' but nothing unusual for this species.
Gecko was darkish brown in colour with mottled lighter patches, the fingers looked long and slender, so it may have been a forest gecko. Individual was partially outside on the tree trunk, but withdrew into its hole.
About 4m above ground - spotted the feet curled around the bottom of kiekie leaf.
Couldn't get a glimpse of head markings - so difficult to say if we've seen this male before.
Discovered on manuka foliage
Looks gravid
Also 2 juveniles spotted in close proximity - possibly 1/2yrs old (twins)?
Lovely distinctive dark stripes
Spotted in manuka
Another juvenile (twin) spotted close by - as well as a female adult
