This puzzles me. I'm pretty sure it's a Hibiscus, but I can't seem to figure out a species. It almost seems like a cross of H. tiliaceus and H. rosa-sinensis (is that even possible?). Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated!

Both O. hirtellus and O. compositus are reported from Hawai’i (and both from Maui), but I don't know what the difference is so I'm only going to genus for now...

This seems to be called C. nictitans (usually without varietal designation) in Hawai’i, but it looks very different from our var. nictitans in Arkansas. I'm not familiar with the other varieties, though. It also doesn't look like C. fasciculata of Arkansas (smaller plant and flowers than fasciculata) and I'm not familiar with other species. I need some convincing to call this C. nictitans, so I'm only going to genus right now.

At Kahanu Garden National Tropical Botanical Garden, but I’m uncertain whether this individual was planted or a volunteer.
