Foraging on a dead White Ash (one of many in the area). The only individual noted.
Habitat: Red Maple (Acer rubrum) stand on ±perpetually saturated soil, with numerous White Ash (Fraxinus americana). The shrub layer is dominated by Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii) and the herbaceous layer by Japanese Stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum). Based on aerial images from 1937 and 1958, this area was a meadow (or, 'meadow like') until the 1940's or '50's. Beginning in 2021, or thereabouts, the White Ash have begun to die-back due to Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis). Some of the Red Maple have also died, possibly due to the Spotted Lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula), which has been noted in abundance on the Red Maples.
